Here at the COTA office we are always very moved and touched by the generosity of our supporters in giving to the work we are supporting with vulnerable children in Colombia. But every so often we open a letter and are truly overwhelmed.
This happened yesterday when we opened one envelope to find a number of very generous donations and a letter from a father – Mr Meehan. He told us that his daughter, Cara Mary Meehan, had died in tragic circumstances in September. She was only 33. The family asked friends and family at her funeral to make a gift to Children of the Andes rather than giving flowers.
Cara had a love of South America, having travelled to three countries on the continent. She also had a real desire to assist deprived children. We are really grateful that the Meehan family decided to commemorate their daughter in this way, which will make such a difference to the lives of children living in difficult circumstances in Colombia – street children, disabled children, children living with HIV/AIDS. We are sure that Cara would have approved and hope that the family will be in some way comforted by knowing that their daughter’s memory will live on in this way.
Thank you to everyone that has made a donation in memory of a loved one.
